Much is known of the pagan customs and superstitions of West Cornwall for much about these traditions was recorded by folklorists of the late 19th Century. Very little survives from East Cornwall. Jonathan and Thomas Couch compiled this collection between 1856 and 1871. It remains the only complete record of the folklore of East Cornwall up until the Great War.
